TOP 5: GALLERIES + FAIRS
From the streets to the galleries and museums.
Long gone are the times in which graffiti only can be found on the streets. All over the world galleries and fairs are presenting works of art by countless artists. This may be a controversial and frequently discussed development, but it has brought public attention to the one thing we love: Great graffiti. And this is why we present our TOP 5 Galleries and Fairs:
Urban Spree
In the heart of Berlin, Urban Spree curates more than 1700 sqm of space dedicated to urban culture. Not only is this a place for visual arts, it also offers concerts and even a beer garden for the visitors. Changing exhibitions, regular fairs, festivals and artist residencies also ensure that no two visits will ever be the same. It also features a huge 15 m long and 8 m high wall (known as “The Wall”), which was painted by famous writers and crews like Daze, Klone or the 1Up Crew.
Golden Hands Gallery
Located in Germany's biggest port city Hamburg, the Golden Hands Gallery was founded in 2015 by Christoph Tornow and Isabella Augstein to build up a marketplace for contemporary art with an urban background. About 4 exhibitions per year are hosted here - and in addition to “conventional” graffiti, the visitors can also discover more unusual urban art like sculptures, installations and conceptual works.
Le Feuvre & Roze
The philosophy of the gallery “Le Feuvre & Roze” in Paris, France is very special: To best promote and present the exhibited pieces, the artist and the gallery are supposed to build a strong bond. Only then the gallery becomes a bridge between the artist and the art collector. This philosophy creates a very unique and personal atmosphere, in which looking at urban art becomes a real joy for the visitors.
Art Basel
Like the name suggests, the Art Basel is an art fair started in Basel by gallerists Ernst Beyeler, Trudl Bruckner and Balz Hilt in the 1970´s. With their international conception, the first fair attracted over 16.000 visitors, and with growing success in the 2000´s, the Art Basel expanded to Miami Beach and Hong Kong. Today, more than 100 galleries in all parts of the globe are part of the Art Basel network, exhibiting art in all forms - including urban street art and graffiti.
Stroke Art Fair
Since 2009, the munich-based Stroke Art Fair is known for their exceptional curation of urban art: They focus on boundary breaking artworks and artists that work in between the lines of painting, music, fashion and photography. With this approach, they create a space that is mind opening for visitors and artists alike. This is why this relativ young fair is already well renowned in the world of art.
